For a couple of years now, I've said that I was going to learn how to sew. Just shortly after I got pregnant with Natalie I had these grand plans that after she was born, I would learn. She's 18 months old now and I still had not made time for this goal of mine. A few months back Target had a really good deal on a basic Singer model sewing machine. So I bought one. I think that was in January. Last night, it finally came out of the box. I have several friends that are very good at sewing and thankfully they were willing to help this beginner. I've sewn once in my life. That was back in 9th grade home economics, and I made the most hedious looking red blouse with white heart buttons. I wish I still had it just to show you what it looked like, but it either graced the trash or goodwill long ago.
So, last night, thanks to Alissa and April and all of their help, I made my first diaper/tote bag.
It's even got pockets! I like this material for the most part, and I've got more clearance table material that I already cut the pieces out of, so I can give the practice run one more go. But now that I know I won't make a complete mess of it I'll be getting something I really like to make a new diaper bag for baby #2.
Have a great weekend!

Leah, you did great...a tote bag is a good thing to start on! Keep going and you will be sewing before you know it! Aunt Joycee
WOW!!! This is great!!! I know I'm a creative gal, but never have I wanted to sew!! lol
It looks great! :) Sewing is something that I really want to learn how to do too.
You did really good for your 1st time! I cannot even sew on a button so I applaud all your sewing girls!!
The bag is awesome. I've got to get back on my machine so I don't forget what little I have learned.
wow, i am totally in awe of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW! Very impressive. I think I remember the red blouse with the heart buttons you made in Home Ec. Mine was a blue paisley shirt/gown/thing??? Boy, that just sent my memory down memory lane! Great job on the bag!
Good job!! I always wanted to learn to sew too. The one year I took Home Ec, our teacher divided us into two different groups. One learned to cook and the other to sew. Guess which one I got!! Enjoy your time and learn all the domestic skills that you can. One of these years, I'm going to learn how to can garden vegetables. Ha! We'll see how that goes. :-)
You did GREAT! Just think, pretty soon you'll be whipping up little baby doll clothes for Natalie and her baby sister to use on their "babies"!
Love the prints, very classy! I can't wait to get my paws on clearance table remnants!!!
You did a terrific job! I have always wanted to learn how to make bags and purses.
